Hội An towards a creative city: Hội An lanterns and Bài Chòi in the Fashion show “Colors of the Heart”

The Fashion show “Colors of the Heart” that took place at the Hội An market area on July 28, 2023 was a success. As a result, the image of an ancient and beautiful Hội An, as well as the rich culture of an ancient trading port, has been widely promoted in major domestic and international media outlets.

Set in the backdrop of Hội An life in previous centuries, the show began with a re-enactment of the daily life of local people with a leisurely, warm-hearted lifestyle associated with busy trading activities. The red carpet and over 1000 outstanding red lanterns created a glittering area on the catwalk. The lanterns were manufactured by the talented craftsmen of Hội An to illuminate the streets and color the event route.

Before the show, VuNgoc&Son invited the musicians of Hội An Traditional Art Performance House to perform in the VIP reception area. Artists playing with traditional musical instruments with unique melodies was one of the many highlights of the show “Colors of the Heart”. This image left an impression in the hearts of viewers when they just moved to the runway.

It can be said that Hội An artisans and artists have contributed to the success of local events and festivals. This is one of the ways to express creativity continuously. Traditional and contemporary values are subtly integrated, contributing to the preservation and development of culture, folk art and crafts in Hội An.

In the second scene of the fashion show, supermodel Minh Tú appeared prominently alongside male models wearing clothing with remarkable designs of bamboo leaf motifs and game cards of Bài Chòi, which were recognized as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. This is also a special creative feature of the fashion show.

The designs in the latest collection of Vũ Ngọc Tú and Đinh Trường Tùng with Hội An lantern motifs are prominently displayed on orange, blue, and yellow fabrics. This is also an opportunity to honor and spread deeper and further the culture and brand of Hội An lanterns to domestic and international friends.

As Hội An is in the process of joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the fields of Crafts and Folk Art, the fashion show “Colors of the Heart” is an outstanding example of Hội An’s creativity in organizing events and promoting cultural and tourism products. At the same time, it is also a way to preserve, promote and continue the source of Hội An’s integration and cultural spread to international friends.
