Hoi An fosters creativity

Bai Choi  and folk songs are two types of traditional folk arts being preserved, conserved, and promoted in Hoi An. Therefore, every year, the city of Hoi An organizes classes on "Folk singing and Bai Choi singing" at schools throughout the city to help students grasp the essence of folk melodies, chants, and recitations.

The Hoi An Center for Culture, Sports, Radio, and Television, along with pupils from Phan Boi Chau Secondary School and Do Trong Huong Primary School, conclude their folk singing classes. As Hoi An has joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, efforts to nurture and develop creative talents for the future will continue to be invested in and developed."

The art of Bài Chòi in Central Viet Nam
The art of Bài Chòi in Central Viet Nam is a diverse art combining music, poetry, acting, painting and literature. It takes two main forms: ‘Bài Chòi games’ and ‘Bài Chòi performance’. Bài Chòi games involve a card game played in bamboo huts during the Lunar New Year. In Bai Choi performances, male and female Hieu artists perform on a rattan mat, either moving from place to place or in private occasions for families. The bearers and practitioners of the art of Bài Chòi are Hieu artists, solo Bài Chòi performers, card-making folk artists and hut-making folk artists.
